Global Leader in Digital Societies and Ethical Transformations 

 

Darren is a ThinkPlaceX Partner, and serves as its Head of AI and Digital Societies, and its Chief Ethicist. 

Over 20 years, Darren has worked for public good, advising governments, UN agencies and globally significant institutions on transformations and program interventions that tackle societies’ most complex challenges. Darren applies foresighting, co-design and digital transformation expertise to the most significant regulatory and policy challenges facing Australia. 

Darren has extensive experience in the domain of safe, responsible AI. He has worked on national AI regulation and standards, strategy and capability, including teaching AI ethics to senior public service leaders. 

He is a non-executive director of the Global Health Security Network, which works across the world to establish networks and policy settings for global public health security, and Chairs the Education Future Foundation, which works to build education system capacity to grow the next generation of ethical leaders. Darren is a director of ThinkPlace Global Development, whose projects have had impact in over 40 countries in the global south. Previously, he has sat on the board of ThinkAction, a Johns Hopkins international development partner under USAID’s Breakthrough Action initiative. 

Darren holds a Masters of Design Futures from RMIT, and has studied Health AI at Harvard Medical School and Neuroethics at Oxford University. He is a member of teh Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Public Health Association of Australia.
